Messolonghi lagoon, Aitoloakarnania Prefecture, west Greece. A fisherman shows the door that opens everytime there is an adverse flow of the waters in order the fish to get in divari (fish trap). Messolonghi lagoon is the most famous fish production place in Greece. Is a wetland of international importance and since 1975 is protected by the Ramsar convention and included in "Natura" network. In the lagoon there are 8 fish farms that are rented by fishermen after an auction for three years. Fishing at the lagoon is still done traditionally, is one of the few places in Greece that is still practiced.
